A Touch of Spring

Dress: Urban Outfitters, Sweater: Madewell, Scarf: Anthropolgies, Shoes: Tory Burch, Bag: Vintage (borrowed from mom)

In the midst of this cold holiday weekend, there was a touch of sunlight! So I thought while I was home for the weekend I would whip out the only dress I packed. My blue knit sweater kept me nice and warm but this January weather was so surprising you would think it was spring already. These pink jelly Tory Burch flats were a weekend purchase (thanks mom!) that I had been eyeing for months. They will provide a great pop of color for the remainder of winter and then carry me right into spring. Since I packed in my small weekender bag for my weekend home, I didn't have a lot of space. So I had to leave out a few essentials, a purse being one of them. But my mother was nice enough to allow me to rummage through her closet until I found this timeless black cross body. She wasn't sure what brand it was but if you don't look too close, you would think it was a vintage Chanel.

Recruitment Day 5: Bid Day

Like preference day, I was so nervous and excited for bid day that I forgot to take pictures of my outfit. Although my outfit wasn’t anything to write home about, I included a few photos taken in front of my new home with my new sisters! Bid day was the same day as preference morning. After we all had made our final preferences and chosen the sorority we wanted to join, we waited in anticipation for the bid day festivities a few hours later. We received our bids (the invitation to join the sorority), met out new sisters and took many memorable photos. It was an emotional process but I wouldn’t change anything about it. I pledged Kappa Alpha Theta and in a little less than a month I will be initiated and become an official active member!

Recruitment Day 4: Preference Morning

Dress: Urban Outfitters, Sweater: Jcrew, Heels: Jcrew

After two long days of recruitment I was definitely ready for preference morning. This is the day when you choose your last two houses to visit and eventually make your final selection. The attire for preference morning was a “Sunday brunch” or “meeting your boyfriends parents” look. I was so nervous for preference morning that I forgot to take pictures of my outfit beforehand. So I snapped a few informal pictures and included this shot of me taken from a group photo. I based my outfit around these pink jcrew heels. I went for neutral colors on top to showcase my bright girly shoes! My lace ivory dress and my sequin grey sweater add something special to my simple outfit. Although my outfit was understated, it was by far my favorite one of recruitment. I really felt like myself in this outfit and I think both of the sororities I visited while wearing it, got to see the real me!

Recruitment Day 3: Philanthropy Day

Sweater: Jcrew, Jeans: Free People, Necklace, Thrift Store, Boots: Nordstrom

Philanthropy day was a bit more formal than the previous day of recruitment. Instead of going to casual parties at all four houses, we only went to three houses of our choice. Every sorority chapter throughout the country has it’s own philanthropy that they support. So on philanthropy day we learned about each of the chapters specific philanthropies and did a small service project that benefitted their charity. On this day we were told to wear jeans and a nicer top than the previous day. It took me a while to put an outfit together that fit the criteria, but after seeing what some other girls is my dorm were wearing, I settled on this one. I chose this cream sweater from Jcrew because it was simple but not too casual. I wore my same go-to jeans from the day before and added my favorite statement necklace for a fun pop of color. Lastly, I wore my brown Nordstrom boots to top it all off. The classic shape and color of the boots bring a casual vibe to the look but the high heel of the boot adds a touch of sophistication. I really enjoyed philanthropy day. After such an overwhelming first day of recruitment, it was nice to get a second look inside each of the houses and also do something nice for the chapter philanthropies.

Recruitment Day 2: Panhellenic Day

Shirt: MissSelfridge, Cami: Nordstrom, Jeans: Free People, Shoes: Tory Burch, Headband: Lulu Lemon

Sweet and simple is what comes to mind with this outfit. We were told to wear, jeans, flats and a cute top. So I followed directions and wore, jeans, flats and a cute top! I wanted to wear something comfortable but still cute. With most of my everyday outfits I go for the layered look and throw on, a shirt, sweater and scarf. But for the second and most important day of recruitment, I wanted a shirt that would stand out on its own without adding multiple layers. I chose this silk blouse I snagged at an online UK clothing store. I paired it with my go-to skinny jeans and my favorite Tory Burch flats. Panhellenic day was the longest and most important part of the recruitment process. We were spilt up into five different groups and throughout the night we traveled to each sorority with our group. We went to each house for about 45 minutes each. We got tours of the houses and talked to the sorority members for 5-10 minutes at a time. Then after we had gone to all four houses we chose the three that we wanted to return to the next day. When the night was finally over, I was exhausted but excited for what the next day of recruitment had in store for me.

Recruitment Day 1: Orientation

Shirt: Anthropologie, Sweater: Madewell, Scarf: Anthropologie, Jeans: Free People, Boots: UGGs,

I’ll admit it, UGG’s are so 2007. But since orientation was casual and it was a little chilly outside, I gave myself a free pass and rocked my cozy chestnut UGGs. I didn’t go to any sorority houses, so it seemed okay to substitute comfort for style. I wore my favorite pearl earrings along with a comfy navy cardigan stolen from my mother’s closet. My ensemble seemed a bit too simple so I threw on this funky taupe scarf. It was just light enough for comfort yet kept my bare neck warm on my walk to and from orientation. Orientation was so fun and exciting! We met our recruitment counselors and played games and icebreakers with our recruitment groups (the girls you go from house to house with). It was a tad overwhelming, but fun nonetheless! It got me excited for the actual weekend of recruitment. Although my outfit was simple, it gave me just enough confidence on my very first day of formal recruitment!

Formal Recruitment 2013!

This past weekend I took part in formal recruitment at my university. I got to visit all the sorority chapters at my school and decide which one was the best fit for me. Each day there were different activities and these activities of course required a few costume changes. With each of my looks this weekend, I tried to keep it simple but still include a small element of style. I thought it was important that I not stray too far from my everyday style. I wanted each of the sororities to see the real me. I wasn’t looking to impress, just looking to make a lasting impression. Recruitment consisted of three long days and five outfits. I will be posting one outfit each day and I’ll explain what the activities were for that day. Enjoy!

DISCLAIMER: I am back at school which means our family camera is back at home. So I apologize for the quality, backgrounds and lighting of these pictures, as I took them with my Iphone in my dorm room.

A Jcrew Kind of Day

Blazer: Jcrew, Sweater: Jcrew, Tank: Target, Pants: Jcrew, Shoes: Jcrew, Necklace: Thift Shore

This is my first week back at college after a long winter break. I had a great three weeks at home and to be quite honest, I wasn't really looking forward to going back to school. My roommate had transferred and I was nervous to make new friends and get a new roommate. But this Thursday is the first night of recruitment at my school. Recruitment is the process of choosing a sorority that fits you best. I have been waiting for recruitment since August and I cannot wait to finally find my greek letters! I wore this outfit a few weeks ago but I decided it was fitting for my mood today. A little gloomy, nervous and overwhelmed but I have to keep in mind that there is light at the end of the tunnel and come Thursday, things will be better than I could have ever imagined! The dark tones of my blazer and pants represent my feelings at the moment. But once I take off the blazer, the sequences on my sweater, my bright pink and red necklace and my favorite neon heels shine through! These pops of color may be small but they are my first step into the next exciting chapter of my life!

City by the Bay

Cardi: Jcrew, Dress: Urban Outfitters, Tights: Nordstrom, Boots: Nordstrom, Coat: Marc by Marc Jacobs, Necklace: Thift Store, Bag: Coach

I love San Francisco and since I only live about 20 minutes away, I am always looking for an excuse to take a trip into the city. Earlier this week, my brother and I went to a local thift store. I wasn't really expecting to find anything I liked, but the second that I walked in, my eyes shot straight to the wall where a gorgeous 60's style cream coat hung. It was a Marc by Marc Jacobs (one of my favorite brands that I can't afford), it was in my size and it was only $50. I decided it was destiny, so of course I bought it! After a quick trip to the dry cleaners, my posh new coat was ready for an outing. So we started the weekend off on a high note and ventured into the city for some window stopping and yummy San Francisco cuisine!

Minty French

Dress (worn as skirt): BCBG, Shirt: Anthropologie, Sweater: Madewell, Heels: Steve Madden, Scarf: from Ireland, Bag: Rebecca Minkoff, Headband: Jcrew

I've always loved the bottom of this cream BCBG dress but I've never been a fan of the top half. So I threw a casual mint top over it and my dress was reborn! I added this blueish purple scarf that my grandmother got me in Ireland and suddently the outift had a french vibe to it which I love! Tre Chic!
